My Heaven on Earth

Oh, how I miss the snow! It seems to fall all around me but never very much in Gunnison. I always hear stories of how Gunnison used to get a lot snow but in the last 10 years I have not really seen it.

I miss the lake effect that Magna use to get. I remember the winters of 1982-83 I believe because of the floods of 1983 (I was only 8 or 9 then). We would help my mom shovel the snow after the plows would fill our driveway back up with snow. My dad would help us build a big snow ramp in our front yard for us to go sledding down. We would also go to Hunter park and go sledding down the big hill on the weekends. My mom would make us homemade hot chocolate. We would also build giant snowmen in our front yard. This tradition would continue throughout the years. We would also add the hills at our elementary school Lakeridge. It had steep hills and jumps, it was a riot. Now they have fenced it off so kids can't have the fun we did. We did this all through our teen years.

I had to have a boyfriend who liked the snow. They had to make snow angels, snowmen, have snowball fights, be willing to help shovel the basketball court with me to play ball or at least a game of H-O-R-S-E. My husband Jerold really does not like the cold but he does tolerate the snow for me. When we were dating I had him outside on a Christmas party at night with no winter coat or gloves and we were making snow angels and we also made a snowman. We were soaked. I didn't mind, those who don't know me, I never wear a coat and use to wear shorts and sandals in the snow (I was wearing shoes, socks, Levis and a long sleeve shirt so I was really dressed warm) but Jerold he was freezing but he married me anyways.

When my parents moved to Bountiful they still got the lake effect and they lived on the bench; it was my dream, more snow!!! After a big storm I will call and talk to my dad to see how much snow they have gotten. Then I mope because we have nothing here. If by chance we get more then a skiff of snow in Gunnison I am on the phone to my parents, my sister and my brother telling them the wonderful news.

My Heaven on Earth would be for me to have white fluffy snow surrounding me!!!

Eight Years of Marriage

This month also brought about eight years of marriage for Jerold and I. We were married on March 10, 2001 in Mesquite. We "eloped" and invited all our families and brought the kids. My best friend Heather was also there. It was the funnest day. Kira was my Maid of Honor, Adam and Whit were Jerold's Best Men, my niece McKenzie was my Flower Girl and Alexis was my honorary Flower Girl(she was quite not 2 years old). We were married by the Reverend Johnny B. Love (that was his real name).

We spent the night in our wedding attire eating at the Oasis Buffet (I ate BBQ ribs in my wedding dress and did not get a drop on me. That was a surprise to everyone), playing miniature golf with our kids and my brother, video games, and having a great time. We went to San Diego for our honeymoon.

Here is a picture of our family then:

And eight years later:

This photo also includes my brother Jason, my sister-in-law Angie, my parents Kevin and Dorothy and my father and mother-in-law Delmar and Shirley.

For our anniversary we went to my favorite Mexican restaurant in Salina called El Mexicano. It is soooo good. It is worth the almost 2 hour drive from Salt Lake to come and visit me to go eat there. We were going to go see "The Curious Case of Benjamin Button" in Gunnison but we did not want to rush dinner so we missed the movie. So seeing we were close to Richfield we called our son Whit to see what movie was playing there, it was not one we wanted to see. Well, I knew there was one in Ephraim, so we ended up driving all the way to Ephraim from Salina to see "Taken". But we had time to kill so we went to Paulie's Brain Freeze for an old fashion malt. They were yummy! Then off to the movies we went. The movie was great. I really recommend "Taken", it was full of action and it was suspenseful.

My Sister Tied The Knot!!!

I am so excited to say that my sister got married this month to a wonderful man named Jeff. They were married on March 7th. I think Jeff will make a great dad, well officially a great step-dad to McKenzie and Alexis.

She made such a beautiful bride and my niece McKenzie was a beautiful Maid of Honor and Alexis a cute Brides Maid, and Rebecca a darling flower girl. They are pictured here with my all my grandparents, my dad and mom, and me and my brother.

This is myside of the family. We are all here except my son Adam, his wife Nikkie and my grandaughter Erica.

The wedding cake.

2A High School Basketball

Today marks the middle of the State 2A Basketball Tournament, how I wanted Gunnison to be there, but sadly they are not. Last Saturday they played Enterprise in the play in game and they lost knocking them out of the Tournament. Maybe next year Gunnison will be in. Looking at the State Brackets, our region has had a tough year in the tournament, it looks like we are going to have to cheer for South Sevier to go all the way. This is very rare, it is usually our region that loads the brackets, what happened??? Did everyone peak to soon, or is everyone just getting better.

I remember when Whitney played and Juan Diego was ranked to take it all. Gunnison was entering as the underdog, ranked as number #6 playing the number #1 team. Marques Wilson was playing for Juan Diego at the time, he went on to play for the Utes football team. Gunnison knocked them off, they did not go to State. I can't remember where Gunnison finished in State that year. I just remember that Juan Diego game. Everyone in Gunnison still talks about that game.

Whits senior year in high school is the last 2A State Basketball Tournament that I have attended, that was in 2004. Gunnison took the Consolation Trophy. They lost the first game in the Tournament and then went on to win every game there on. It was a very exciting year and a very exciting tournament. Whit made the game winning shot so they could enter the tournament. The game was against Kanab. Gunnison had an awesome player named Jake Hill, and Kanab had him double or triple teamed and so Jake gave the ball to Whit and Whit hit the three pointer causing Gunnison to win instead of sending it into over time. That was something nice about that team, they played as a team and no one looked to be the hero/superstar, unlike sports today.

So with all being said, Good Luck South Sevier!!! Watch out for Gunnison next year!!!

Here I Go!!!

So I have finally done it. I started a blog. This has taken many promptings from my friends and nieces to do this. And after reading all their blogs and others, I thought why not, this could be a neat experience and after all part of my physical therapy is to write and use the computer so I am helping myself by doing this and keeping everyone somewhat up to date. I want to thank Tawnya for helping me get started in making my page start looking cute! THANKS!!!! You were always like a little sis to me!!!!

So a few things you will have to understand about this blog is that although I use to be grammatically correct in most of my writings and an excellent speller, this probably won’t be happening on this blog. If my brain and all its systems (autonomic and central nervous system) are working correctly we will be great and if one is off, well we can have one fun confusing read  I’m not sure how many pictures will get posted on here, but I will try. Jerold and I go through picture phases so I will do my best. I will also probably be posting a lot of my opinions on her about things. Not so much politics, religion, etc that only gets you in trouble. More about daily living in a small town, family life, and so on. And pretty much all of you know that I have opinions, so please don’t be offended by them.

I hope you enjoy my family blog as much as I do!

Happy Birthday!!!

February has been a busy month for us, birthdays, basketball games, and of course the wedding. We start out the month with Kira's 21st birthday on the 6th, my 35th birthday on the 11th, and most importantly Erica (our granddaughter's) birthday on Valentine's Day! She turned 2 years old. Jerold and I missed her birthday party because we were in Moab on a two day basketball tournament but we got to call Erica and talk to her on the phone. Erica is quite the talker, and when she is done, she's done. Now that the wedding is over, we will be having a late birthday party for her.

Oh, another birthday we forgot, is my sister Carrie she had her birthday on the 22nd, she turned 33. January was just as bad for birthdays and unfortunately March is not any better. Good thing we like cake and parties!!!

Welcome to the Family

We have a new addition to our family this month. On February 20 our son Whitney married his beautiful companion Cari. We are so excited to have her in our family. The wedding took place in the Manti Temple. It was a very special day for all of us. It was extrememly special to see all sets of parents able to be present for the ceremony. It was especially neat to have the sealer who sealed Jerold and I seal Whit and Cari. As Patriarch Dyreng spoke I began to remember the words he said to Jerold and I. It was a very sacred and spirtual time that I will keep with me.

Although we are welcoming Cari into the family it will be very hard to see Whitney go. It was hard to say goodbye to him when he left on his mission to the Philippines but he was only going to be gone for two years and then come back. Now he is leaving to start his own family. Oh, how they grow up. Whit was only 13 when I started dating his dad, and know he is a grown man. Congrats Whit and Cari. We love you very much!
